Newly establishing Gold and Silver Lizards in Markapur

Jai Vasavi Mata Jai

There were newly establishing - Gold and Silver Lizards are in Sri Chennakesava Temple, Markapur, Prakasam District (Andhra Pradesh, India)

Note:
  • There are already stone Lizards are there since inception of this temple.

Let’s see the story of these Lizards:
  • These Lizards are called in Telugu (Language) – Bangaru Balli

Main Story:

There are two disciples of Gauthama Rishi used to fill water every day for their Guru. One day, to their shock, they found a lizard jumping out when they placed the tumbler in front of their Guru. An angry Rishi cursed the two for their carelessness and they instantly turned into Lizards.

The 2 disciples stayed here at Kanchipuram as lizards until Indra came, as Elephant Gajendra, to worship Varadarajan Perumal along with

  • Sun (Golden Color)
  • Moon (Silver Color)

Thus, relieved them from their curse, In memory of this, there is a golden lizard and a silver lizard outside the Varadarajan Sannidhi. Belief is that one will be relieved of all diseases if one prays to Lord Varadarajan and touches the Lizard on the way out.

Who are Kalinga Vysya and their History

Jai Vasavi Mata Jai……

Arya Vysya’s of Kalinga (present day Orissa) are known as Kalinga Vysya’s. Arya Vysya’s are also present in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and all of them come from the Komati Samaj of former Jains and Buddhists who got absorbed in the ritualistic caste system as Vysya’s during the period when Jainism was suppressed and vedic assertion and domination took over.

Note:
On those days, 102 members Vysya’s decided to Atmahuti with Vasavi mata – Arya Vysya’s
714 members went to different kingdom, they kept rules that vysya’s should eat Non-Veg then only these people allowed to live with their kingdom’s. So these Vysya are called as Kalinga Vysya.
